[Detail from poster - actual size]

The Yukon is one of the last places in North America where wolves still thrive in intact ecosystems and encounter relatively minimal interference from humans. Even so, we feel fortunate for the opportunities we have to see wild wolves here.

"We encountered this gray wolf in late May near the Dempster Highway in Tombstone Territorial Park. He appeared lean but healthy, and was trotting along with a determined gait. Though he didn't act bold or fearless, the wolf was decidedly unconcerned by our presence. Scrambling for the camera and the right lens, I managed to watch and photograph him for about ten minutes before he moved on. Several times, he stared right at me with a piercing, electric gaze."
